You can send up to 35,000/- a day from abroad using m-pesa, see the IMT page on the safaricom website for more information. You can't send money with Paypal because you can only set up Paypal accounts in Kenya to make payments, you can't set them up to receive payments

Mtwapaman, its possible to use western union and Mpesa from the UK but the rates are quite higher and not possible from any EURO using country. About the Paypal, you can set up an account in Kenya, you can receive money on that account, you can purchase items with that balance, the only problem is, you can not connect paypal to a Kenyan bank account to withdraw funds from a paypal account.

I meant that Paypal does not officially work to receive paymentt in Kenya, it is not yet set up so you can directly withdraw money in Kenya. The businesses that take Paypal payments in Kenya do so because they have bank accounts elsewhere, usually in Europe that they can receive the money in the transfer the money themselves. There are workarounds to this such as Tuma-pesa (intended for sending money from abroad, and nothing stops you from sending money to yurself). I am familar with the UK M-pesa aystem with Western Union, but according to the IMT page I referred to above you can also transfer money from 44 other countries, including most European ones using the Western Union / M-pesa service. I was not recommending the service, i was pointing out that the transfer limit was quite small, I also thinkk it is expensive but the actual cosr differs from country to country so I left the poster to find out the costs for their country form the link I posted. The only advantage it has over the standard Western Union service is that it goes to the recipeints M-Pesa account, they do not have to go to a WU agent to receive it. There are rumours that Paypal are working with two Kenyan banks (Equity crops up regularly) to allow it to be linked to Kenyan bank accounts, but these have been around for two years and there is no sign of any deal yet

Paypal already works in Kenya but not the usual way. Kenyan traders need a significant investment and patience for their paypal account to get verified and to be able to fund and withdraw money. The percentage of costs, especially in smaller monthly amounts, is significantly. We are working on a program to help Kenyan traders to take fund from their Paypal accounts at more reasonable rates. However, the reason that Paypal is not yet active in Kenya in the normal way: is the number of fraud cases, also we have to deal that same fraud. In the near future, the Paypal option on our website will be assisted by similar gate ways, which will be cheaper ways to send money from certain countries only. For now I think we're offering a competitive payment option using paypal compared with google checkout, western union, moneygram or wire money to bank accounts from any country. Thank you for your replies!
