Okay Sue, i will mail you. I have another 4 month to wait. But no problem now. Weather is for the change very, very good in Amsterdam. I have been to several places in Mtwapa, such as Hibiscus and Mwtapa Creek cottages, they are also very good. But for the change, maybe Kerstins is the next one.

Hi Susan,

I recently stayed at Kerstins and what a beautiful tranquil place. Read that your  going back to see your fella, lucky you. Is it Kerstins you use or do you use aartments when the brother is back?  If so and if you don't mind me asking, which ones and what are the prices? Are they in the area? Which hotel is your fella at and could he possibly not get discount on the rooms there?

I need to be looking for a reasonable place to stay and price as looking to possibly take up voluntary work out there sooner rather than later.

Thanks

Jeni

Hi I had a friend who stayed here during april/may this year and she had a good time said the place was very nice, they have a web site with pics and other info. Kerstainsapartments.De. Also a review on trip advisor seems to give it the ok, I have past it on my way to the beach and I didn't take to much notice it just stands on it own that said I am back for 5 weeks at christmas and it's on my list for a possible place to stay. If you have anymore questions you need to ask about Mtwapa feel free.                                                                                                                                                                                                             Trevor.

But without a car it´s too far away from the town; during the night or for shopping it´s not possible to walk

About a 15min walk to Tamu tamu at a normal pace, and agree for night time but easy on Boda Boda only 50bob no problem and they are always about and I have seen Matatus going around in the daytime toward the top end of town Danpark/ kenol petrol station.

Thank you CMT,that's what I hoped for.

15 minutes are an easy walk when you are fit.No problem.

And it's generally a good advice NOT to walk in Mtwapa or Mombasa in the nighttime.

So I don't change my booking in Kerstins.

Yes; maybe 15 minutes through the bush. In Mtwapa/Mombasa town it´s not a problem

to walk

It is hardly 'through the bush'. Kerstin's is on the edge of a small residential area that is almost suburban by Mtwapa standards. I know because I lived there for over 3 years.  From Kerstin's you walk through this area for 200 m or so. Then you cross what used to be a field but has now been sold for development and most of the plots are now walled or fenced off. It is about 200 metres to cross the field and then you are at the Maximum Miracle Centre, withe Estate Gate Hotel and the Honeytrap bar just beyond, you then pass close to Hippo and Daveliz guest houses, Luck and Merry Villa apartments, Eagle's Nest. It is 15 to 20 minutes, it is one side of a triangle I used to walk most days, this way to the main road by the Posta, KCB, Tourist Police, etc. Along to Tuskys then down by Kenol and back, that side of the triangle is more open, but still hardly 'bush'. When we lived there I wouldn't walk home much after 8 at night because of the 'field', though I regularly rode my motorbike there late at night. I think its safe to walk from the main road down at least as far as Merry Villa / Luck until around midnight, as that part of the road is reasonably well lit.
