The alcohol control act, officially in operation since last November 22, doesn't seem to effect Mtwapa so much yet. Also Kisumu and some other places in Kenya aren't impressed by the new law.

Personally I think its good bars not to open near schools, waiters and bar staffs get some responsibilities when it comes to exceeding drinking and there can be set closing times for residential areas.

To restrict serving alcohol so strictly, as from 2 (weekends) or 5 pm (weekdays) to 11 pm, is too much, what do you think?

when you drink,dont drive,take a taxi!

in belgium ,when you have more than 0,5 promille(3beers) it cost you betwween 50000 and 100000 ksh,and 3 months no driving.

the differend is the most mzungu go for a few beers, but a kenian go till he is completli out.

i dont drive in kenia,i drink, but a drunken taxidriver shel not be my driver!

Unfortunately that is the law now, ignore it and you will go to jail or just make sure you have between 30 and 50K  (for fines) in your pocket incase you land on the dock!

lets us all try and end all forms of impunity!

i think they should breathalise the taxi and matatu drivers if suspected of drinking or any driver for that matter either car or piki piki, also drugs, if caught they loose there licence for 2 years

as for openeing times , long may it stay as it is now open all hours

so bars like banhof, cheers , bobs bar and all bars on the beaches wont be able to sell alcohol ?? out side of these times , what about the hotels ??

watch the tax revenue start to decline then they will turn a blind eye to it

Agree pjuk. Setting hours to allow drinking will make drinkers to get drunk fast and irresponsible. The alleged drinking law encourages bad behavior like "only one for the road".

agree Hans, thats the problem we have here in the uk, restricted hours makes the idiots drink faster and more

they should leave the drinking hours alone , one its good for buisness and the economy and two not so many drunks

i think in all the times ive been to kenya ive only seen a few drunks

here in the uk its rife

For me I think drinking is not bad so long as one knows his or her limits.
